Zoneziwoh emailed this photo to me as well (see the post “Email your photos to WAC to post on the blog”), and I posted it on the blog for her. Zoneziwoh, could tell us:
- A title for this photo
- A message that this photo sends
- The story behind this photo

1) TITLE: OUR WORLD, OUR LIVES, A HOME
2)SINCE WE ALL COME FROM ONE EXTENDED FAMILY, OUR WORLD, OUR LIVES IS ALL COMING FROM ONE HOME.
3)THE TIGHT FIST IS TELLING US OF THE ON-GOING MARATHON FOR FREEDOM
THE SUN PASSING THROUGH TELLS US THAT WE STILL HAVE HOPE, AND THAT ALL IS NOT LOST. AS LONG AS WE REMAIN FIRM TO OUR CONVICTIONS. TOGETHER IN ONENESS, IT SHALL ONE DAY COME TO PASS.
WHEN THAT DAY WILL COME, THE WORLD WILL BE ABLE TO ACCEPT THAT OUT OF MANY, WE ARE ONE BUT WITH DIFFERENT FACES, DIFFERENT NAMES, FROM DIFFERENT LOCALITIES.
IN ORDER WORDS, WE ARE TRYING TO SAY THAT TOGETHER WE FIGHT AGAINST STIGMATIZATION, TOGETHER WE FIGHT AGAINST VIOLENT AND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION (just like the UN theme of march 2009, 8th) AND TOGETHER WE CONTRIBUTES FOR THE BETTERMENT OF TOMORROW.
THANKS

Thanks Zoneziwoh. As I did with your other photo, I’d like to ask everyone else: What other possible titles and messages does this photo inspire?

hi,
on behalf of Mbah Henry, this is his comment.
i see a hand in the air, a punch to victory.
i see light through the fist, we must not despair.
i see a recapture of hope, a celebration of freedom
and a setting sun of suppression.
i see a peaceful revolution,
this vision of mine may not tight be clear
but to say this fist of mine is not enough to deny the very essence of its audacity
and to ignore its courage to rise against the odds of our time.
injustice and inequality,
together lets support the fight against human rights violation,
life for a life; a reason to live.
much love
Mbah Henry

Thanks Mbah Henry and Zoneziwoh, that’s a beautiful piece of writing and something we should try to use again later in this project.

Then let me thank your friend Emka as well – not only do the photos tell a story, but they’re also visually striking.

I have been staring at the above photo for over 10 mins. I see and feel lots, but
with very little to express. Before I crown it up in a few words, let me pour out
my heart’s content.
- The hand being lifted up is the left hand, the less active of both hands. This
implies that we should never minimize ourselves. No matter how dull, small, young or
poor we are, our very existence is greater than any obstacle we can ever find on our
way.
- The gap through the fist is not big, yet we can see light through it. This means
that the opportunities open to us now are small, but through them we can achieve great
things that can be a gateway for a brighter tomorrow.
- The picture has an overall dark theme, a setting sun. To me, this tells us to be
time conscious. We should make haste now and collectively act. If we allow everything
follow a natural course, they may not be to our advantage.
- I see confidence and hope. Raising a fist is like walking tall. Confident of what we are up for/against and hoping it will be a success since we are not giving up.
- Only one hand is raised in the air and all the fingers brought together to make a fist. This means that we recognise ourselves as being diverse but together in unity as one.
To crown it all, I will say “One People on one course working towards a better tomorrow.
